Records fall at racehorse sales in Australia

The sale of thoroughbreds at the 3-day Easter yearling auctions in Sydney set a number of new records, illustrating the growth of the Australian racing sector.

Total sales moved from AUS$118 million (US$98 million) last year to AUS$148 million (US$122 million) this week. The average race horse was sold for AUS$333,000 (US$275,000), with 23 horses selling for over AUS$1 million (US$828,000). The highest priced yearling was sold for AUS$3 million (US$2,5million). The colt has an exceptional pedigree as a descendent from champion horse Rock Of Gibraltar

In total, 588 horses where entered for sale compared to 492 at last year’s sale.
