Asian Racing Conference - The Hong Kong Jockey Club
Country-bred

All modern thoroughbreds descend in tail-male line to one of the foundation sires brought to England in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries and crossed on English and imported mares - the Byerley Turk, Darley Arabian and Godolphin Arabian – of Arabian, Barb and Turkoman breeding.

Since then the thoroughbred breed has spread across the globe, and each country's breeding studs and barns have become a major agribusiness.

The Hong Kong ARC will examine how the thoroughbred has developed in three countries: India, the Philippines and Turkey. This will include:
  • Major influences on the domestic breed.
  • Current level of investment in the sector.
  • Introduction of new bloodlines.
The session's panel of expert presenters are: Mr Sadettin Atig Steward of the Jockey Club of Turkey, Bienvenido Niles Jr. President of Philippine Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Organisation, and Satish Iyer, Registrar of the Indian Stud Book. The session's Chairman is Dr Cyrus Poonawalla.
