Dutch justice to prosecute unauthorised online operators

The Ministry of Justice of The Netherlands announced to take legal action against online betting operators that offer their services to Dutch citizen. It will also take action against financial institutions that take transactions from such sites.

The planned action will face resistance from the banks, which already rejected earlier plans by the Ministry to blacklist unauthorised sites.

According to recent market research by Holland Casino, the single licensed national operator, online gambling has almost doubled in the last three years to 450 million euros in 2008. Similar to its French counterparts, the Dutch terrestrial casino operator wants to start its own online operation.
