Recently retired Australian wonder mare BLACK CAVIAR (AUS) (130) retains her status as the best racehorse in the world so far during 2013 just ahead of American Horse of the Year in 2012 - WISE DAN (USA) (129) in the latest edition of LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings ( 1 Dec '12 - 4 Aug' '13 )The German trained four year old colt NOVELLIST (IRE)(128) stormed to the top of the European rankings with a commanding performance in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes ( Sponsored by Betfair ) (G1) at Ascot defeating Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1) winner TRADING LEATHER (IRE)(120) by five lengths.

In the European pecking order ,NOVELLIST (IRE) (128) is just ahead of two outstanding classic milers in TORONADO (IRE)(126) and DAWN APPROACH (IRE)(125) who resumed their rivalry in the Qipco Sussex Stakes (G1) at Goodwood where the English trained TORONADO (IRE)(126) just defeated his Irish adversary DAWN APPROACH (IRE)(125) for the first time in three attempts with DECLARATION OF WAR (USA)(120) back in third.

Meanwhile at Deauville in France , the French mare MOONLIGHT CLOUD (GB)(121) won the Larc Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1) for the third year in a row when defeating dual Group 1 winning sprinter LETHAL FORCE (IRE)(121) in impressive fashion. The leading racemare in Europe and second only to BLACK CAVIAR (AUS)(130) worldwide ,MOONLIGHT CLOUD (GB)(121) is joined on a rating of 121 by the American racemare ROYAL DELTA (USA)(121) who returned to her best form when romping home in the Delaware Handicap (G1) for the second year in succession.

Among the classic crop in North America, the Todd Pletcher trained VERRAZANO (USA)(121) returned from a disappointing performance in the Kentucky Derby (Presented by Yum ! Brands ) (G1) to annihilate his rivals in the William Hill Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park and in the process jump alongside Kentucky Derby winner ORB (USA)(121) at the top of the North American three year old division.
