Kentucky racing industry calls for racino reform

The Kentucky horse racing industry launched a campaign to support new legislation that would allow for casino gambling at authorised racetracks.

The lobby effort is organised by "KEEP", the Kentucky Equine Education Project. KEEP is a grassroots organization formed to educate the public and legislators on the importance of the horse industry to the state's economy.

In the coming months, KEEP will advocate the advantages of the introduction of racinos, such as the increasing revenues for the horseracing industry and the state treasory.

The Kentucky initiative is one of many worldwide to allow gaming services other than betting on race tracks. In many parts of the world, the introduction of racinos has already led to a structural improvement of the local racing economy.
