Key appointment in UK racing

Alan Delmonte, Communications Manager since 2001, will assume the newly-created position at British Horseracing Board of Public Affairs Director on 19th September, at which point Communications Executive Will Lambe is to take on Delmonte’s current role.

Delmonte will report to Chief Executive Greg Nichols and be responsible for overall BHB policy communication, Board administrative matters and, working with the Chief Executive, political and legislative issues. He will also act as BHB’s Company Secretary.

Lambe will become the principal point of contact for media and public enquiries and where appropriate act as spokesperson on all areas of BHB’s work.

BHB Chief Executive Greg Nichols said: “These are very welcome and deserved appointments which reaffirm BHB’s commitment to promoting talent from within wherever possible.

“Alan has developed an excellent reputation as BHB’s media spokesman over an extremely challenging last four years and his elevation to a Director with wider responsibilities is well earned. I also have every confidence in Will’s ability to fulfil the role of Communications Manager very effectively.”

Alan Delmonte, 32, joined BHB in 1996 after two years as a racing journalist with Racenews and became Communications Manager in 2001. Will Lambe, 25, was appointed as Communications Executive in 2003 having previously worked for SIS, Arena and as content editor of the attheraces website. Both won places on BHB’s Graduate Development Programme, in 1994 and 2001 respectively.
