Young children can bet online, UK study reveals

A study by a UK children’s charity, NCH, revealed that children aged between 11 and 17 who hold debit cards have easy access to online betting.

NCH made a test with a 14 year old girl, who was able to set up 21 wagering accounts, including with some major companies, out of 32 betting sites she accessed. She was able to place bets from UK£5 to up to UK£500. Only three went on to suspend her account after the investigation. The 14 year old was able to open accounts by simply stating a different age and using her retail bank credit card.

The NCH claims that age verification by online gaming sites is insufficient.
