Canadian advertising ban for unauthorised gaming websites

The Canadian province of Ontario is about to adopt a law that would ban the advertising of unauhorised betting and gaming websites.

The law is an amendment to the existing Consumer Protection Act and reads as follows:

“No person shall print, publish, distribute, broad-cast or telecast an advertisement or representation that includes an Internet gaming business website address unless the person believes in good faith that the Internet gaming business has been licensed or otherwise granted permission to operate in Ontario or Canada by the appropriate authority and is operated in accordance with the”.

The law is introduced to push back the uncontrolled advertising towards youth and the protection of authorised gaming, which funds horseracing and good causes in the case of online lotteries. Unauthorised betting websites do not contribute to the racing product.
