A new racing organization, European & Mediterranean Horseracing Federation (EMHF) has been established for more unity among member countries in the region. A founding meeting of the Federation, hosted by the Swedish Jockey Club was held in Stockholm, Sweden on 1st June which coincided with bicentenary anniversary of the racing in Sweden.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Brian KAVANAGH, Horse Racing Ireland, and 18 countries have become signatory to the initiative. Founding members are AUSTRIA, BELGIUM, CYPRUS, DENMARK, FRANCE, GERMANY, GREAT BRITAIN, HUNGARY, IRELAND, LITHUANIA, MOROCCO, NORWAY, POLAND, SLOVAKIA, SPAIN, SWEDEN, SWITZERLAND and TURKEY. Those 13 countries who did not attend this meeting would be potential members.

The purposes for the Federation are more assistance to developing countries, exchanging information, unifying voices to European bodies and among others.

The Federation will be legally registered in Belgium and the first General Assembly will be held in Paris, 7th September, and a Chairman, Vice Chairmen and a General Secretariat will be nominated there.
The latest development will be addressed in the next General Assembly of the IFHA in October, Paris.
