Ryan Moore crowned “Longines World’s Best Jockey” for the second time

Hong Kong (Hong Kong) / Saint-Imier (Switzerland), December 9, 2016 – Ryan Moore’s career is one where all superlatives apply. He has won many of the major races around the world, ridden the best Thoroughbred racehorses and broken several impressive records. For the second time in his exceptional career, the British jockey was crowned “Longines World’s Best Jockey” tonight at the annual gala dinner of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. With a total of 166 points, he won the award ahead of Christophe Soumillon (98 points), and Hugh Bowman (94 points), who are respectively based in France and Australia. Moore was awarded a Longines timepiece and a vase by Longines and IFHA representatives.

Ryan Moore, one of the greatest jockeys of his time, clinched a second “Longines World’s Best Jockey” title in recognition of his remarkable achievements throughout the 2015-2016 racing season. Winner of eight of the qualifying Group/Grade 1 races, including the Longines Hong Kong Mile and Longines Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly  – all three timed by Longines – Moore was honoured tonight during the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s annual gala dinner.

Juan-Carlos Capelli, Longines Vice-President and Head of International Marketing, and Louis Romanet, Chairman of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA), presented the British jockey with an elegant 18k rose gold Longines timepiece from The Saint-Imier Collection as well as a crystal vase. His name will be engraved for the second time on the vase, alongside last year’s winner, Frankie Dettori.

The Longines World’s Best Jockey Award is a proud joint initiative of Longines and the IFHA.  It is based upon performances in the 100 highest-rated Group/Grade 1 international races as established for the year by the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee. The scoring incorporates races from 1 December of the previous year until 30 November of the current year.  Jockeys accrue 12 points for a win, 6 points for placing second, and 4 points for placing third.  It was established in 2014, and Moore was the inaugural winner.

During the gala dinner, the Swiss watch brand also presented its new TV Spot featuring Longines Ambassador and Taiwanese actor Eddie Peng, which highlights the Official Watch of the Longines Hong Kong International Races, a model from The Longines Master Collection. The dial of this elegant timepiece is decorated with a barley-corn design and features a moonphase display. Mounted on a dark brown leather strap, it brings together the classical elegance and excellent quality which never cease to delight those who appreciate exceptional watches.
